I paid the debt collector before I knew that there was such a thing as "pay for deletion" that I could take a chance on, or that I could have just gone to the school and paid them directly. (it was a debt from a college class that I thought was included in my loans- but the school never included it or informed me that it wasn't, and then I end up with a $770 collection notice a year after graduation)
Anyway, could I write them a letter asking that they remove it? I know there's a good probability that that won't work, but would it hurt? Could I call (or write) my school and ask if they can have the debt collector remove it?
Thanks!
Yes, it is called a GW letter. Ask the CA or who is reporting to remove it. In a nice way.
