Paying collection will...

Raise my score and help my credit? Even they're 5 years old?
Thanks in advance.

Unfortunately, No and No.    A paid collection is just as damaging to your FICO score as a unpaid collection.

Getting the collection deleted is the only way to help your FICO score.

Assuming the debt is now past SOL, its maximum FICO damage may have occured.

However, FICO is not the only issue.  If you have plans to app for new credit between now and the CR exclusion date of the collection, the presence of reported, unpaid bad debt will be harmful.

Have you considered attempting a PFD to get it deleted?  Or are your credit needs such that you are willing to just ride it out?

Re: Paying collection will...

I'm trying to rebuild my credit after a divorce several years ago that left me on creek, but I wanted to know first if it was worth all the hassle first before I try anything, cause I heard that too, that even if they're paid it still is a bad remark unless it's deleted, ima try the pfd with one of the collections to see what happen, but I don't know since they're so old that if is worth trying.
