Paying off medical collections

I have a question about a few old medical collections on my credit report. I've been making small monthly payment to a CA for an old medical collection. I  just spoke to theCA again and they agreed to remove the item from my CR if I paid in full. But, a friend of mine told me the item would get removed automatically after the item was paid, whether I do it all at once or payments. Is that true? He said because it wasn't 'revolving' credit.

Re: Paying off medical collections

No, it is not true.  Negative items come off your report 7 - 7.5 years from the DoFD, paid or not.  And it does not matter what type of credit it is, revolving, installment etc.

The only exception that I am aware is in NY where a paid collection is removed 5 years from the DoFD.

See if the CA will give you a letter stating it will be deleted upon full payment.
