Negative items stay on for as long as 7.5 years. Late payment would be 7 years.
My understanding is if it is a 30 day - it will stay on report but only affect scoring for about 2 years. The longer the late - the longer the score takes a hit.
You might try to contact your lender for GW deletion of the late payment - especially if you have had 2 years of on time payments since.

How long does payment history affect FICO scores?
I had a truck payment. November witll be the 2 year mark that I was late on it. Will that fall off?
If you are talking about a single 30 day late, its impact will lessen to almost nothing after 24 months of age, but it will still remain on your reports until it hits 7 years. 30 day lates are considered a minor derog.
