Please tell me what to do next!

I have a hospital bill that I have been paying on for about 8 months. The bill was due on the 28th. I got an letter yesterday saying it had been turned over to collections. What should be my next step? The bill is $3600.00. I don't want this to end up on my credit reports. I'm trying to buy a house this summer.

Make arrangement to make payments on it, payments that you can afford and keep up on. Most medical collectors will work with you and not report it as long as you keep up on the payments.

I've avoided several medical collections, just by working with the CA (as distasteful as that may be) as soon as they contacted me.
