Proving payment

I am paying a collector the money I owe them. I do have an on-going deal with them and have been in contact with them. My question is, after I send them a payment, how can that be legally proved? These guys are real jerks, and I can just imagine them saying that they never received anything, or they did, but there was no check inside the envelope.

I went to the bank and got a certified check made out to them. I am also sending the letter with check CMRRR. Is there anything else that I can or should do? I just don't want them to come back and say they never received a check. Since it is a certified check I sent, that money is already out of my account.

I am just being precautionary and want to make sure I am doing this correctly.

Thanks

Re: Proving payment

Funny you should ask this, as I was wondering the same thing.  If we dont give CAs our CC numbers or send them personal checks, how can we prove to the CRAs that we've met our end of a PFD agreement.

Re: Proving payment

I'm not an expert on this area but if you send a certified check you should make a copy of the check and sent it via certified mail and get a return receipt and delivery signature confirmation.  The copy of the certified check should be enough because you can easily track the check and see that it has been cashed out and you would be able to tell who cashed it.  I would get something in writing from the collection agency stating the terms of whatever offer they gave you and so forth.
