I decided to pull my TU score, since I did a free credit report last month with EQ. The score is kind of low, 675 and it's a drop from the 703 I had in 08.
It says I currently have two negatives impacting my account. I had an Old Navy/GEMB card that was 30 and 60 days late in 09 and the card was closed by them. I'm not disputing that, because I'm pretty sure it's accurate. They closed the account, but I never received any notification, until I went to use it.
I also have a Chase reporting as 30 days late twice in 2008. I closed the Chase account because the card was just too high to keep open. I'm positiive I wasn't late, should I bother disputing it or leaving it alone?
I know my score isn't horrible, but I was planning to apply for a card and do a balance transfer. I haven't had any inquires in a year, as I haven't applied for anything.
Disputing valid information isn't a good idea.
Asking for good will is. Also, keep in mind that your score isn't static, it's a snapshot - if your utilization is high, that also affects your scores.

Yea utilization is high and that was noted on my score/report. I'm planning to make large payments and some of this should drop off. Then hoping to apply for Discover and do a balance transfer. It says payment history is "good," length of credit is "very good","amount of new credit is "very good" but amount of debt is "not good," so high utilization is definitely affecting my score.
Going from maxed out to 0% can get you up to ~100 points, depending on your other factors.
However, those lates are relatively recent, so they're hurting you, too.
