Rebuilding Credit after paying derogatory marks years ago

Hi Everyone,

May i please get advice in rebuilding my credit. I would like to purchase a home soon and would prefer to improve my credit score before trying to do so. I have read a lot of good advice on this forum such as writting letters to creditors, offering to pay for removal, etc.

My question is do i have any chance of getting the following derogatory marks off my credit report anytime soon, even though i already paid them off years ago? And if not, how long till they go away.

Derogatory Marks

Bank/Asset Acceptance $1200 (Status: Paid, Closed)

Date Opened: 09/2012

Reported Since: 10/2012

Date of Status: 10/2013

Last Reported: 10/2013

Credit Card $1100 (Status: Paid, Closed)

Date Opened: 12/2009

Reported Since: 11/2009

Date of Status: 11/2012

Last Reported: 11/2012

Experian Credit Score: 650

Here my Current Accounts (All in good standing)

Credit Union Credit Card (01/2005)

Credit Union Credit Card (09/2012)

Citi Credit Card #1 (08/2015)

Citi Credit Card #2 (02/2016)

Amex Credit Card (03/2016)

Any advice on improving my score would be very much appreciated.

Thank you ,

Re: Rebuilding Credit after paying derogatory marks years ago

I applied for those cards recently to help my activity. I plan to keep the utilization very low/zero on them. I just need to find other ways to boost my score

Re: Rebuilding Credit after paying derogatory marks years ago

You need to provide a listing of each derog, by date, under each account in order to determine its credit report exclusion date.

Each monthly delinquency has an exclusion date of no later than 7 years from its date of occurence, and any charge-off or collecttion has an exclusion date of no later than 7 years plus 180 days from the reported date of first delinquency on the OC account.

What are the derogs and their dates?

Going by those dates you provided, it appears most of them are in 2010, which means they will fall off your report next year. With that said, have you explored the options for getting them deleted by the creditors?

Re: Rebuilding Credit after paying derogatory marks years ago

Hi RM21. Would that be writing a goodwill letter to them? If it's even a slight possibility, I would definitely be willing to write goodwill letters. Are there any other options you would recommend? Thank you very much for your help.

Re: Rebuilding Credit after paying derogatory marks years ago

I have written a goodwill letter to the three creditors i have negative marks with to see if i have any success with them removing them. I will be mailing them out tomrrow. I am hoping at least one will be willing to help. I think it would improve my score a lot.

If the debts have been paid, then a pay for deletion is no longer an option.

Good-will requests are your path at attempting deletion prior to their normal exclusion dates.

Thank you Robert. We'll see where the goodwill letters get me.
