Rebuilding credit, apply for Auto loan or wait?

I need some advice from all you credit savvy folks. I had bad credit in 08 when I bought ny current car, so bad I am still paying for another year. ouch. Anyway I have been working on my credit (I went on a credit card app spree in june and got 4 cards so my scores dropped) so I have of 642 and TU of 695. I keep my utilization10-15% and have no lates in over 3.5 years. I am really hoping to get a new car soon but the fact I still owe on the current one will be tacked on to the loan I'd need. With all that said my income is only 40k, what are the odds of getting maybe a 25k approval for an auto loan? Should I wait till maybe mid next year? Help!

Starting Score:550
Current Score: 683 EQ 680 TU
GoalScore 720
