Rebuilding credit, trying to get to 700

Hi everyone,

I'm a new to all of this. I have been working on my credit and rebuilding after a failed marriage that ended in bankrupcy.

My current credit score is 696.

I have one personal loan that I took out and paid most of my credit cards off with for $3,000.

and I have 10 credit cards in total.

However, I only have around $1,200 charged and a credit utilization of only 6%.

Discover     $0/$6000

Capital One    $0/$4300

Venture     $675/$2000

1st Summit    $414/$2000

Levins    $0/$1500

JCP     $120/$2000

Overstock     $0/$1000

Walmart     $0/$700

Victoria Sec     $0/$250

Barclay    $0/$250

Since my bankrupcy, I have never had a late or missed payment.

I have stalled in my score moving and was looking for ways to get it going again.

Thanks ahead a time for any advice

Have you tried only letting 1 card report? I finally got those last 3 points today's when I had one less card reporting a balance.

Try to have only one card report and be 8% or less and see if that helps.

Re: Rebuilding credit, trying to get to 700

How many inquiries do you have reporting?  That could be 1-10 points.

How long since your BK?  Your positive accounts will age and increase your score and your negative accounts will fall off and increase your score.

You have a $2,000 Venture card?  CLIs without HPs ould help your score.

Rebuild started in 2014  -  $100k unsecured credit in 2017  -  $500k unsecured credit in 2024.

Re: Rebuilding credit, trying to get to 700

I have 5 inquires reporting.
My BK was discharged March of 2015.
And my Venture card was approved at $2000.

Re: Rebuilding credit, trying to get to 700

Basing this off the one score shared...
You don't seem that bad off honestly

You're near 700
Even with a few cards with balances, which you can change at any moment to buy back a few points

Your Inquires aren't 'can'
Your BK is aging, as is your more current positive history

Assuming some of those store cards are fairly recent, maybe HPs perhaps SCT.... either way their new credit accounts and again you're still sitting at basically 700

That ain't bad

A slight bit of tweaks with utilization and a bit more aging with the new baby TLs and you're nearing score wise BEST AVAILABLE rates, which for most things is either 720/740

You aren't far off some there score wise with a BK 30 months ago, with $250 store cards I'd said that ain't too shabby

I know the bright lights and movie cameras SELL 800 and 850 credit scores as the Mecca but being in the 800's doesn't qualify one from ANY better rates

If access to the top tier rate is 740, 790 doesn't change anything....
My point being you're at 700 with the baggage you have now... allow aging and maintenance to work for you and go live your life

You can't be a 790 at the moment but you're pretty darn good from where you stand 30 months post BK

IMO your debt load isn't at freak out mode
Are you looking to finance something in particular, right now?

Otherwise, you can't stress over each little point that 'might' be available this month... your score is solid and you're adding history monthly and the negs are aging out of importance monthly

Again, you can't expect to be at near 800 right now but you see how you're at near 700 and growing = best you can do, don't sweat the small stuff ENJOY the ride
