Requesting a credit line increase. Total owned variable?

I have had a Delta Community Credit Union Credit Card for a little over 3 months now.  When I first opened the account the rep that helped me said I could request a CLI in about 3 months.  I was wondering if the amount I owe on the card currently, affects the CLI decision in any way?  It is a $2000 cc and I owe about $650 on it right now.  Would it be a good idea to pay it down some before requesting the increase or doesn't it not matter?

Yes, it would be wise to pay down as much as you can before you request a CLI. Delta Community can be fairly conservative. They would only let me raise my limit $1k and it was a hard pull with no balance on my card. It's better if you can go into a branch rather than request over the phone. I requested my CLI at the ATL airport branch.
