Satisfied judgement: 7years starts from when?

Hi there, lots of info but, cant seem to figure out a decisive answer...

I had a judgement filed against me in 2008 by Cap 1 for $1,208. It was reported paid (satisfied) June 2012. Will this remain 7 years from June 2012 (satisfied date) or the filing date (2008) since it was satisfied?

Thank you!

^THAT^

keep in mind, that since its satisfied, you MAY be able to get it vacated ("Motion to Vacate"). ie *poof* it never existed and is removed. basically a judge "reverses the decision".

i only did this one time for myself, so ill let you confer with the pros on the specifics of the procedures so i dont misguide you.

It all depends on whether your state laws allow for it.  If they don't you can always write a GW kind of letter to the judge asking if he/she will consider vacating it.

Whew! Sooooo glad it's from 2008 and not 2012! Does the impact diminish over time and more importantly is it a deal killer for companies like Amex and Chase?

Re: Satisfied judgement: 7years starts from when?

Cross,
I have researched the motion to vacate and from what I've read if the judgement was not an error, it was impossible to remove them. I'm lucky that it does not show up on TU but, it is the only thing holding me back on EQ and EX from great scores. Glad to hear it worked for you! If there was some sort of attorney who specializes in this I would gladly fork over the money to have it removed!

Not true.

Many states you can file a motion to vacate after payment. Illinois is like that, I have had two removed like that. Legit judgements, which I satisfied, and then vacated afterwards.

Go to the courthouse and speak to someone at the clerks office, they will let you know if it is doable in your state.

Re: Satisfied judgement: 7years starts from when?

Hi Scott,

Not sure how it works in CA???

The courthouse isn't too far away so I may check it out. My only worry is that it is not reporting on TU and I don't want it to suddenly show up becasue I distrubed the "bee hive."

Awesome to hear you had success with yours!

Courts or clerks don't report.  That is all done by 3rd parties hired by the CRAs.
