Re: Score Required for Department Store Cards

It depends on the Department Store.

Something like a Walmart isn't likely with sub 500 scores.  But you can get a SCT card in the high 500s

Needing a Firestone or similar card.......need some car repairs.  Score is around 600.

Dept store cards often start approvals in the low 600s.   SCT is "shopping card trick"...you may want to search the CC forum for more info on those.   Some of those start approvals in the upper 500s.  However, this is YMMV, especially depending on your profile and your history with that lender.  For example, I was initially denied for Macy's with scores ~690, due to them being IIB; I was able to be approved on recon.

Concerning Firestone, you might want to search the CC Approvals forum for better information.

This means "included in bankruptcy."   We use a lot of abbreviations around here.

If you need any help deciphering ( I know I did when I got here!), there's a thread called "Frequently Requested Threads" at the top of the boards.   In there is a "Guide to Common Abbreviations"

Go to www.creditboards.com and click on "credit pulls" at the top of the page.  You'll be able to search specific retail store, credit bureau, and state and see whether or not credit was given and what score was requested.

Re: Score Required for Department Store Cards

My scores were in the 580s when I got approved for my Firestone card.

Had a bunch of inquirys and new cards.  (old judgements and 2 small medical collections) Figured I would rather go for a Firestone card instead of paying out of pocket, was approved for 1000, at the time 700 more than any of my other limits.

Id go for it.
