Score ranges which necessitate secured vs sub-prime

At what point does one, should one, get a secured card vs a sub-prime or prime cards. I know there are more factors that just the score itself, however, I am wondering if I should even bother with a secured card right now. Are secured cards really just for those with scores < 500 or 550 or 600?

I know it would not be near exact, but if people would present some general ranges like below. I fully understand that recent history makes or breaks many decisions and there will be several people who have experiences similar to "my score was 740 but I was denied for Bank X Nice Rewards Card."

300 <> 540  secured card

541 <> 725 sub-prime

726 <> 850 prime

Re: Score ranges which necessitate secured vs sub-prime

I'm asking this cuz I have arount a 620 scores with no open CC lines w/ CL over $0. I have a few negatives I'm working off but I don't know if I should start secured or go back to sub-prime cards.

Start with a secured and continue to work to get the negatives off your account.  Subprime cards can be expensive with AF and monthly fees.
