Seven Year Removal Date

I have a question. There is an item on my credit report which was open  7/2003. This item still remains listed on my report  as "PAID COLLECTION AFTER ACCOUNT CLOSED" I contacted TU to try to have this remove, and they advised  me it's seven years from the date of delinquent not from the date it was open. Is this true?

Here is the information  any help would be well appreciated !

Re: Seven Year Removal Date

Mostly true. It's the date of first delinquency (DOFD) that starts the clock for the 7-7.5 year credit reporting time period. DOFD is the date you first went late and never recovered. MyFICO won't show DOFD (usually), but if you pull your free reports from annualcreditreport, you'll find DOFD listed on your EQ report. TU and EX won't list DOFD, but will show an estimated drop off date instead.
