Re: Should I pay CA or OC?

If I do the DV letter..  how long should I allow them before I pursue a PFD? Should that even be my next step? If not what should?

Thanks,

Re: Should I pay CA or OC?

I would contact the OC now and see what they say.  It can't hurt anything.

If the CA happens to respond then you would send the CA a PFD.

Re: Should I pay CA or OC?

please excuse me for all my questions...... but I truely do appreciate all your help.... I just wanna make sure I do this in the right order and the right way, not to hurt myself anymore than I already have..

Now are you saying that I should just contact the original creditor and not send the DV letter to the collection agent right now?

Thanks,

Re: Should I pay CA or OC?

I'm just saying it is ok to contact the OC at any time.  Sending a CA a DV puts it on them to prove you own the debt.

It really does not matter what order you do it in,

Questions are no problem.  That is why we are here.

Re: Should I pay CA or OC?

should I provide my social security number in the validation letter... or should I just give them the account number listed on the credit report, my name, & mailing address to send me validation of the debt?

Thanks again,

Re: Should I pay CA or OC?

NO!!!!!!  Never provide a CA with anything like your SSN, phone number, driver license or anything personal.

When you send the DV you reference the account number on your CR, send it to the CA via the address on your CR and only type your name.  Do not sign it or put in a signature block.

You can search on here for the specifics of sending a DV letter.

Re: Should I pay CA or OC?

ok..... looks like I am gonna send this letter out tomorrow. Exactly as I have posted it here. Unless you think I should use one with more detailed info requesting, etc.

How much time should I allow, to hear a response from this DV Letter?

Thanks again for all your help.

Re: Should I pay CA or OC?

No, this one is fine.  They are not obligated to answer the long list on the other one.

The catch here is, they have no time limit to respond but, they can not continue collection activity until they do.
