Re: Should I pay off child support arrears with credit card?

Contrary to what the people above me state...It depends on the state, from what I've read and understood. Majority of the states DO delete it, the minute you are current.

Re: Should I pay off child support arrears with credit card?

Well both links you provided clearly state what we already know and that is they will continue reporting with a zero balance. Its just like any other CA or OC who owns a debt once its paid it will continue to report with a zero balance. Any lates that would've occurred would still be reported. Like any case I'm sure it could be deleted via GW.

In some cases ive seen it go from a negative tradeline to a positive tradeline but with the lates still being reported.

NFCU plat 5k | NAVCHECK 5k | NFCU cashrewards 15k | BOFA 123 6k |
Chase Freedom 1.5k | Amazon 3K | Walmart 3K | Buckle 300 | AMEX BCE 2.5K | CHASE CSP 12K | CITI sears 6k | Kay 2k

Re: Should I pay off child support arrears with credit card?

What is a child support collection account that is reported to the credit bureaus?

The balance on an account that remains unpaid for 180 days or more will appear on credit reports as a separate collection account. Once a collection account is paid in full, the account will be deleted from the credit report.

^Guess you missed that part.

But, like I said, it depends on the state...

Chase Southwest $5000 - November 2012 Wal Mart $1000 - November 2012 NFCU Visa $5,000 - Sept 2012 NFCU NavCheck $3,000 - October 2012 Amazon $900 - Aug 2012 Kay's Jewlery $2700 - Aug 2012 Buckle $250 (Shopping cart trick) - October 2012 Roaman's $250 (Shopping cart trick) - October 2012 Capital One Secured $225 - April 2012 Capital One Platinum $2500 - July 2012

Re: Should I pay off child support arrears with credit card?

Hi guys,

I am going through the same thing, when we settled on child support I got dinged on my credit report too, unfairly.  The exact same way you have.  I have called a consumer attorney and making efforts to force them to update the credit reports.  You could contact the state attorney generals office because they should be reporting the payments.  I have already done this but I not been able to talk to anyone that was able to help, still trying.  Also I have a complaint with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB).

So far I have found that if they refuse to update their mistakes, then it is 1000 per violation according to section 623 of the fair credit reporting act.  THis is where I am with it.  If anything changes I will let you know but they report this unfairly to credit reports not caring what is going on with that person.  I am behind because it took that long to settle, not by my fault either.  Oh well.  The 15K will be nice once it is settled.  I'll pay off my student loan.
