Slow but steady wins the race

I am so thankful for all of the information I have learned here. I started off with 4 baddies on my CR and have since PIF on all of them. Once those updated my TU Fico score went from a 622 to a 659 which is not great, but it's a start. Since then I was added on as an authorized user to a CC with a limit of $700 with a UTI of 8% as of yesterday and I also am a joint account on our auto loan. I only had 1 hard inquiry on my CR that is due to fall of in Dec 2012. Well this morning I decided to go ahead and give USAA Rewards Card a shot and applied not expecting to see what I wanted. Well imagine the shock and grin on my face when they approved me for a CC with a limit of $1500. I know it's not huge, but I'm not looking for huge, I'm looking for the overall rewards by going slow and building myself back up. We are not looking to purchase a home until we get to our next assignment in 2 years, so I know that if I keep up the good work, we should have no problems of attaining that goal. Thank you to everyone who contributes here on a daily basis, your experiences and knowledge and helped me so much!

Awesome for you! I just joined USAA and am happy about it! Do you mind if I ask if you like them? I plan to go for their secured card in Dec or January and after a few months apply for a regular CC with them.

Congrats!

Thanks Shogun, it has done wonders for my mood today as well Smiley Happy

@NovaBama, I love USAA. We use them for our savings/checking/insurance and auto loan. Their customer service is amazing as well, they have always made me feel important and respected as a member. For them to approve me with a 9.9% with my low TU Fico score of 659, they are my best friends now. We plan on using them once we go to buy our house in a few years.

Re: Slow but steady wins the race

Thanks TheConductor. It took me a while to get myself into the mess and I sure did not go into cleaning up my mess with any "rose colored" glasses on, so that has helped out. I avoided working on my credit for years, but just got tired of the CA's calling and decided I needed to take control of my situation and correct my past mistakes. It's now turned into a mission for me. My goal is to at least be at 750 across the board in 2+ years when we get to our next base and start the process of buying a home. I'm hoping for an easy first home buying experience with as little stress as possible. We qualifu for the VA loan so just making sure all our ducks will be in a row at that point!
