State Tax Lien...

Hey everyone,

I am from Oklahoma and found out I had a tax lien on my credit for a $515 amount. When I called about it they said that once I paid it would be released but it was up to me to send the documents to all CRA's to have them updated. I have been going toe to toe on this issue with the OK tax commission because I never received notice of having taxes due until July 2014 and then tax lien was filed against me September 2014. I finally paid it in full and while still having this lien I have been able to obtain credit cards to help rebuild. So far I have Capital One (secured) $200, Credit One $300, Open Sky (secured) $500, Total Visa $300, First Premier $400, Discover (secured) $500 and I also have a Fingerhut account and a $31,000 car loan which has never been late. I currently have paid some cards off which leaves a balance only on Open Sky and First Premier. The Discover and Credit One are new so no balance on them at all. I am wondering once this lien reports as paid if anyone in my predicament seen a jump in scores. I have tried to apply for other cards before and the main reason I would be denied is because of the public record (Tax Lien) on file. So, I am hoping for a jump and also maybe larger credit lines down the road. I would like to know if anyone else has had a better journey after paying tax liens. Any information would be great, thank you!

Re: State Tax Lien...

The fact that the lien happened is what counts with Fico so a paid lien is better than an unpaid one it will still be a negative factor even though its been paid. You might want to look into getting it withdrawn some states will allow this after its been paid. You would need to contact the entity that recorded the lien to see about whether or not this can be done.

Re: State Tax Lien...

I already spoke to Oklahoma Tax comission, they will not allow a withdrawl since they only do those if it is an audit error on their part. I will receive a release in the mail in which I can send to CRA's to update the record but I am pretty much screwed and hearing the same thing over and over again about how it will state it will be paid but on my record for 7 years is dwindiling my confidence in my rebuild. This also makes me upset because I had not received notices until the last one and then BOOM lien was filed. Yet no one will take that into consideration. I am really thinking about getting an attorney for this mess. But honestly, how much would that help. I feel it is unjust.

Re: State Tax Lien...

I had liens for Maryland and Georgia. When I paid them, the county update my credit report for me. It didn't really improve my scores but it was very important when I started the process of looking for a house.
