Status: Transferred,closed.

If an account from about 5 years ago states  Status:Transferred, closed. Does that mean I should just leave it alone or should I dispute to get it off? Does this mean a collection company may have bought the account from the OC (Public Savings)?

Re: Status: Transferred,closed.

Unstated is the payment history on the account.

What, if any, delinquencies were reported?

Is it currerntly delinquent, or is it paid?

I presume, since you express concern about a debt collector, that thet account is currently delinquent?

If so, then sale of the account would permit the new owner to report a collection.

Re: Status: Transferred,closed.

If the debt was charge-off by the OC, then it is very delinquent.

If sold by the OC, then they are required only to update the balance on their account to $0.  The reported CO remains, and you can no longer pay the OC.

As for a dispute, you would need some basis for showing that their reporting is inaccurate in order to file a dispute.

The post does not assert any inaccuracy.  If there is some inaccuracy in their reporting, a dispute would only involve correction of that inaccuracy, and would not extend to any requirment to delete the entire account.

The party who has acqured the debt can now report a collection without need to first contact you.

I would advise contacting the creditor and obtaining the name of the new owner, and unless you intend to contest the legitimacy of the debt itself, then consider paying them before they report a collection.

After reporting of a collection, they are istructed by CRA policy not to therafter delete that reporting based on your payment of the debt.
