Re: Student loan default removal.

FCRA 605(a) sets forth the credit report exclusion period for each of the derogs that may have been reported on a paid student loan.

Collections, for example, become excluded no later than 7 years plus 180 days from the DOFD.

Earlier removal would require voluntary deletion by the creditor, which you can request by sending them a good-will letter.

Re: Student loan default removal.

So basically I have to wait? I'm confused.

Re: Student loan default removal.

If you do nothing, the CRA must exclude after the relevant credit report exclusion dates.

The CRA monitors those dates, and excludes without any need for your request.

If you wish removal prior to their required exclusion date, you can request the party who reported the derog to voluntarily report its deletion.

You do not have to wait the full exclusion period, but any deletion is at the full discretion of the furnisher.
