I applied for a Bank of America Secured Credit Card for $1,000.00. Today, I got a denial in the mail! What? Denial? For a secured credit card? I called and the woman I spoke to stated that because of prior late payments and charge offs, they cannot give me a card. Excuse me? Isn't this the purpose of a "secured" credit card to build and rebuild credit? All my prior bad debts were paid in full and I have two opened cards that I've been doing right by for the past 6 months. I only have a $50.00 balance on each of my opened credit cards. My yearly salary is more that $50k. I can obviously afford to pay. How in the world can you deny me for a secured cc. After going back and forth, I asked to speak with someone else. He looked at my report and approved me right away. He had no idea why I was denied. Thank god I called and then asked to speak with someone else because if not I would have had a hard pull for nothing.
So Tip: ALWAYS CALL FOR RECON..DON'T GIVE UP TOO EASY!
