Re: The rebuilding starts here-

I stopped monitoring for a while because it was very frustrating to see little to no progress taking place even though I was doing all of the right things.

However, 6 months in my scores have shown a little more of an uptick.  Again, nowhere near where I'd like them to be, but you have to take what you can get I suppose.

eq-596

tu-610

Just a quick update for anyone that cares.  In just a litte over two months, my results have been pretty good.  I've been added to two of my wife's cards as an AU (and they're reporting) I've disputed a couple of things that were legitimately wrong.  I'm starting to see upticks in the right direction.

Starting scores on 11/15

EQ-523

TU-531

EX-511

Scores as of 1/27/15

EQ-559

TU-580

EX-551

I figure I've lurked long enough that I'll finally participate.  So, after getting re-married a few months ago, and having my credit just absolutely wrecked by a mixture of my ex-wife and poor decisions, I finally decided to be a grown up and fix my credit.  It also had to do with being recruited by a major financial institution in a pretty decent position and thinking several times that I almost lost the position due to my credit/background check.  (Luckily, I gave good enough explanations that they moved forward with the offer.)

So, on 11/15, I pulled myfico reports and scores and they were as follows;

EQ-523

TU-531

EX-511

This included;

17 collections (half medical bills from my ex-wife, one bank account that was our joint account that I allowed her to keep and she overdrafted and abandoned it, two cell phone providers and then a few that I did on my own once I knew my credit was going to be ruined anyway.)  Also, there is a judgment from a "payday loan" (yeah, yeah, I know, I know.)

On 11/21 I decided it was time to fix this mess;

.....

Ten months in (almost to the day)

EQ- 624 (up 101 pts.)

TU - 634  (up 103 pts.)

EX - 636 (up 125 pts.)

Collections are down from 17 to 4-6 depending on the report (and they're just going to have to age off) and scores continue to rise.

I've added a enough tradelines (revolving and installment) to maximize what I need.  However, it does get aggravating that I can't get approved for anything, card wise (no Cap 1, no Barclays)

Quite frankly though, the long term goal is a house,even though the short term gain isn't what I'd like, I need to see that in 10 months, I have gained over 100 points on each bureau.

Oh, and refinancing my double digit interest rate car would be nice as well, but I don't see that happening any time soon either.

With those scores, Cap1 should be opening their doors to you.

Check (or keep rechecking) the prequal site every so often.

Congrats on your success so far!

Re: The rebuilding starts here-

What reasons does Cap One give you for denials? When was the last time you apped? Do you know your FICO 4 scores? I believe Cap One actually uses EQ FICO 4....

Yeah, fico 4 scores are about 120 points lower than my other scores. They haven't raised at all in the last 10 months (and I've purchased new reports with the scores 4 times over the last ten months.)

Maybe I shouldn't have done it, but I did anyway, and it made me feel good.

Wal-Mart and Amazon approved today.

Felt nice to see Synchrony give me love.

I understand that - When I finally got my first card - I ended up applying and getting 4 - it was just so nice to feel some love after YEARS of being told NO!

What were the 4?  (I'm itching to go for one more, but just don't want to waste it.)

That may be the issue right there. Does the EQ score that Cap One shows (on the denial document) correspond with your FICO 4 scores?
