I filed for banktruptcy in December of 2016, but I had recently moved, and my case was dismissed. I re-filed in another jurisdiction. Both filings now show on my credit report, and I've been turned down for things (not just credit--I tried opening a checking account at a credit union and was turned down) because of "multiple bankruptcies." I disputed the dismissed filing in an attempt to have it erased from my report, but the credit bureau came back and said it was legit. Is there anything I can do? Is this really going to haunt me DOUBLY for a decade?
