I have a collection by CMI that is unpaid and due to fall off in 10/2014. I also have one from a local CA due to fall off in 12/2015. Should I PFD or leave it?

What state are you in so we know what the SOL for the debts is. You can find your state's SOL here: http://www.creditinfocenter.com/rebuild/statuteLimitations.shtml
I am in California.

So in California the SOL is 4 years from DOFD. Both of these items are well outside SOL so you don't have to be worried about lawsuits from poking the bear. I'd say offer a token PFD offer (start at 20%) since there's no harm. If they take it, score, another baddie just bit the dust early! If they walk, they get nothing and "Good Day Sir!" to them.
