About 2 years ago our electric bill started to become larger than we could handle, so they agreed to a payment arrangement to spread the excess out for 24 months. Great! Now I will admit that since the bill has a constant varied due date, I would miss paying it by the exact date requested. Now normally if you miss your credit card payment by 1-3 days you might incur late charges, but they don't report you past due. Everytime I would miss by a day or more they will report me 90 days late!! They said they go by the amount in arrears. I would always call promtly to set up a new pay agreement, but they refuse to do anything about the mark on my credit. Is there anything I can do?? Or are they legally in the right?
They are legally correct.
On a side note, I have never seen a utility company report to the CRAs unless it was a collection or charged off. Haven't come across one that reported monthly lates.
I finally got to the right person at the utility company, he understands my perspective and is going to remove them.
