You get dinged just as much for having no cards showing usage (a balance) as you do for having too many

You need to get all but one of those cards paid down to zero. You're probably getting dinged for new accounts as well as more than half your cards carrying a balance. Getting your UTI in order will be an immediate benefit, as well as reducing your UTI.
