What do I do now?? :(

Here's a link to my original post last week http://ficoforums.myfico.com/t5/Rebuilding-Your-Credit/Y-all-Should-Please-Come-to-My-Rescue/m-p/314...

So I just got a letter in the mail today and to my surprise it's from a Collection Agency regarding an AT&T account that was opened fraudulently. Mind this account I had already reported to the police and got everything straightened out. It was also deleted from my credit file after I had submitted my police report and affidavit. Anyways the said original balance on the account is $588 and now this CA is offering a settlement for $176. At this point I am so tired of this fraud issue and why it's still lingering. Please what do I do in this situation, should I just pay them the $176 and move on with my life or should I straight neglect them?? What would be the effect of paying this fraudulent debt if I had to? If I disregard the CA would it cause them to do something drastic to me like creditwise? And can paying this cause the account to be reinserted on my file again? I have successfully rebuilt my credit at this point and can't afford to go back to where I came from. Any advise would be appreciated. Thank you Smiley Sad

Submit the paperwork you have to the new company.. Show them the affidavit and police report. Submit it also to the credit bureaus. Do not pay it. I'd go so far as to send a copy to AT&T as well.
