My mom's credit report started off with 6 collections items and 2 judgements, 3 of the collection have fallen off and her score has risen about 150 points. She has an $871 charge off from Capital One, the card was opened Feburary 2008 and closed on November 2009, its not one of her collections items but it is reporting as one of her credit card accounts. Is there anything we can do to have it removed or perhaps paid and in good standing?
Charge-offs have a credit report exclusion date of no later than 7 years plus 180 days from the date of first delinquency, not the date of last payment or any other date.
The creditor was required to have reported the DOFD to the CRA within 90 days after reporting of the charge-off, so it must be in the credit file.
You can usually retrieve it by viewing your credit report on annualcreditreport.com.
