I sent out DV letters and that wiped out most of my collections. After they came off of my CR I paid the OC so that it wouldnt come back. For my medical collections i used the whole medical debt process that was posted up here. Then i had 2 charge-offs that were still factoring into my util. i tried to GW them but they wouldnt accept so i went ahead and paid them just to drop my util. to 0 and raise my score. Thats about it for now. still working on sending GW's for other charge-offs. But i now have no collections and alot of stuff is due to fall of next year.
Congratulations Tasha!
Through what process did your DVs wipe out collections? Did you get no response after 30+ days? Did you send the DVs to the CA, CRA or both? How long did this take?
I've been a reader for a few weeks, but I just signed up for Scorewatch today. I'm a little depressed after seeing my FICO score of 466. My PLUS fakos from another site averaged around 560 and I was more hopeful of quickly moving to the mid-600's. I guess I just have more work to do.
I sent out 15 letters to CAs and OCs over the past two days: A couple PFDs, DVs on some strange old accounts that must have been transferred through several CAs, GWs for old closed paid delinquent and paid settlement accounts, a couple to reopen LOC accounts I closed. (The Plains Commerce is recent and in good standing, since Feb 2009 - they closed it as "consumer's request" because I didn't notify of an address change??? The other is for a HSBC Student MC I opened in 2000 and closed after paying because I didn't know any better. Not betting on the ancient history coming back...)
My credit situation is this: On my Equifax CR have 6 collections, 13 derogatories (some are closed with $0 balance paid, but most are live collections) and 4 positives. My oldest open account is from Sept 2007. I have no current LOCs so the debt ratio is 133%. A lot of the baddies are unfortunately recent - from 2005-06 (bad years for me emotionally and financially); simply put, I took a year and a half hiatus from paying bills.
I'm working now on really getting things back in order. Does anyone have suggestions on what else I could do that I'm not doing yet?
