I have never rented a car from Hertz. Yet I have 3 inquiries on my credit report from them. I called Hertz and they tell me there is nothing they can do, I dispute the inquiries with the equifax, and they come back as verified. I am a JR and I'm certain its my father as he rents cars all of the time. But I know he's not using my info. How do I get these three hard inquiries off of my report? As I am sure they are affecting my score.
I'm moving your post to the rebuilding forum.
Do you have the same address? Usually they use the DOB, license, and address to run the soft check. To prevent it in the future, have your father tell them to make sure they put "Sr" in. Or better yet, have him us a credit card so there's no credit check. This will probably take a hand-written complaint to the CRA, sent CMRR.
No we live on opposite sides of the state. Kind of irritating. What should I write in the letter? Same format as disputing a tradeline? Also these appear to he hard inquiras they have not fallen off and appear to be affecting my score, according to myfico.com
They told you that "there's nothing they can do". REALLY?
By pulling your credit report where you had no business with them, Hertz just violated your rights under the FCRA.
I would send them a letter CMRRR demanding them to either prove that the pull was permissible under the FCRA or else delete it within 10 days of receipt of the mail.
If they fail to respond by the end of the 10th day, find a consumer lawyer nearest you and have them file a lawsuit against Hertz.
Depends who was called. If you speak to the counter or low-level CSR, there really is nothing they can do. You probably can't talk directly to anyone that can do anything about it. As stated above, you'll need to send a letter to corporate via CMRRR. BBB could work also.
In my experience, the BBB is ineffectual. A barking lapdog at best.
I hope that corporate will pass the letter along to their legal compliance team.
If the folks at corporate are smart enough, they will relize their error and delete immediately followed by an apology.
If they are not smart, then get a consumer lawyer for yourself and prepare to battle.

+1
Thank you for all of the responses. Is there a special type of letter I would send them or just one saying that I have never done business with them and want the inquires removed?
