If you sent a DV and they did not respond they are under a cease collection bar until they validate. They cannot accept money from you.
I didn't send a DV letter.. I disputed for other reasons.
A dispute doesn't put a cease collection bar, only a DV. Since the OP sent a DV and they didn't respond, that did, if it was timely.

I just made final payment to Midland (and received my faxed letter showing paid-in-full, and will update all three bureaus -- and it was gladly accepted while my account was in dispute with them.

@guiness56, honestly, I think they were probably about to close my account and delete it as they did the other one.....I may have jumped the gun on this, but at least its paid in full. I wanted to apply for my mortgage loans before the end of the year. Fingers crossed.
