question about a very old red light ticket...

Received a letter in the mail from some attorney office in Texas and they were demanding payment on what appears to be an old "red light ticket." They list the violation as happening on 12-18-2010 in a vehicle I haven't had for 4 years. In 2010 I did have to pay a red light ticket for my son when he (and 3 other cars) hit snow/ice and slid half way into the intersection - thus the ticket. I do not have any paper work from it as it has been 6 years. They are asking for $198.00 and it is crazy. I don't want this to screw up my credit, but it seems crazy to pay something that you have very little information about. Any suggestions?

Are they acting as a debt collector, or simply threatenng legal action?

Pay it. $198?  Why take the risk for $198?  I would pay 3 times that to have piece of mind that it won't hit my CR
