Hello, I am just getting started trying to clean up my credit reports. I got my free reports and had 2 collections accounts. One of them is a collection agency with the original creditor being my old college. They claim that I was overpaid financial aid, but I never knew that. Anyways, they sent it to a collection agency, and they reported it on my credit report.
It showed the amount was $905. Also, it showed "Open". I decided to dispute it, as I have some documents from before the college sent it to a collection agency showing no balance due. My dispute results were simply stated as the account has been updated to a balance of $906 (A $1 increase?).
Now on Credit Karma, it shows the account as "Closed" with a date under it of 12/31/1969????? and the balance showing $906. What exactly does this mean now that it shows closed? Im going to check my report tomorrow through EIDT to see if it also shows "Closed". I am confused as to what this means, and if I opened up a can of worms by disputing the account! Thanks for any help.
You have to be careful with 3rd party reporting such as the case with CK. All collections are open.
Im definitely going to check my report tomorrow to be sure, but seeing this made me concerned and confused. Especially with the date showing 12/1969. That was only 17 years before my birth!
I was 1. Lol
