Okay, I have some medical bills on my credit report that I feel that I should not have to pay. I will tell you the whole situation so you can fully understand my reasoning in not being responsible for the bills. Yes, I know I was treated and techically should have to pay, but just read below and see if there is anything that you guys could reccomend that I do.
Okay, so when I graduated highschool in May of 2006, me and a few friends decided to take a trip to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina...a few days into the vacation, I some how ended up with Bacterial Meningitis. I was first taken to Waccamaw Community hospital in Myrtle Beach and bascially lay there in the hospital all day because they were unable to figure out what was wrong with me, by the time my mom got there at 2a.m, I was passed out and strapped to a bed due to me uncontrollably shaking. I started to vomit while I was passed out, mom got a nurse and requested a doctor, the nurse said no, I was just allergic to the morphine, I would be fine when she gave me more meds, mom refused to listen to her and demanded another doctor. The doctor on call immediately had me rushed to the ER after noticing blue spots on my hands, she knew it was Meningitis and knew that I was in bad shape, they ended up locking the hospital down due to everyone being exposed to me for basically 14 hours. They enduced me into a coma and was going to fly me to the University of Charleston but was later notified that the helicopter could not fly due to weather. So they ended up putting me in an ambulance and transported me that way. The Dr. told mom that she might as well expect the worse that I was too far gone! They get me to Charleston and i'm admitted to the ICU and remain in there for about 2 weeks, I am finally well enough to be moved to a normal room where I remained for another 2 weeks or so. I had a team of doctors working on me, so finally they all cleared me to be released to go home. They were all suprised that I had even recovered with no major problems. So I am released and return home, I end up having to go to the local ER due to me not being able to sit still or sleep, the Dr. there reviews my records from South Carolina and wants to do another lumbar puncture to see whats wrong. He trys to do it but can't, and has to call another Dr. in from home at 3a.m. to do it, to their suprise, I STILL HAVE THE MENINGITIS! I am immediately rused to Bristol Regional Med Center in TN (nearest infectious disease control specialists) I'm admitted there for another 3 weeks and finally am cleared to go home again, they had finally gotten rid of it! I ended up being almost blind for a couple weeks due to some meds that they had me on.
My insurance paid all 4 hospitals every bill that was submitted to them, 100%, I had VA Medicaid.
The Medicaid expired around 4 months after all this and we thought everything was okay, we hadnt recieved any hospital bills or anything, the hospitals even called to check up on me every now and then.
SO a year later, I recieve a collection notice for 3 hospital bills from the first hospital that FAILED at being a hospital if you ask me! The bills totaled around 3,000. They submitted them after the insurance had expired and the insurance would not pay! SO there I was will bills from a year ago, that would have been paid if submitted to the insurance! I honestly believe that I have no responsibility what so ever to pay these bills!
Is there any way to get these removed from my credit report? They are reporting to Equifax.
Sorry again for the long story, i'm sure you guys didnt need to know every detail, but I just wanted you to see and understand as to why I don't think I should have to pay the bills. Waccamaw hospital almost cost me my life and now have cost me a substantial loss of points on my FICO score!
