So I bought a house!! It's been a crazy 5 - 6 years getting my act together to pull this off, but I did it - yay! One thing I will note, though - now that I've moved in and am doing renovating (some of it I'm even doing myself), it sure makes me wish there was someone around - for general support things, like walking the dog or getting food -- or getting the dog food, lol. OR, better yet, taking over the pulling out of old carpet nails that don't want to come out, or taking over painting the ceiling when I get a ripping pain in the shoulder (not lol, at that one, actually)
Anyway - if there's anyone out there who's in the same boat, contemplating buying a house that needs work on their own, to them I say: more power to ya! It will feel achy and stomach-growly from hunger while you're doing it (because you're "in the zone" and covered in drywall dust and just don't have time to clean up and go get foodI), but in the end, it's worth it: and it's YOURS.
Way to go!!!
COngrats, the sweet taste of drywall, I mean victory!
Congrats.. Most people wish they were in your shoes
Congrats!
Thank you, Everyone!
@ Yes - oh, I know - I feel very fortunate. Right when I'm about to get depressed about still sleeping on the couch or not have my kitchen set up, I remind myself that I'm having FIRST WORLD problems. That stops the mental complaining real quick
@ydkm -- When I saw this, I cracked up laughing! Can't tell you how many times I sanded dried mud with my mouth open and got a good taste of it - blech! (which then made me wonder: why *on earth* is my mouth open so often?? LOL!)
Congrats!
Congrats
Yeah it has been a 5-6 uphill battle for me too, to get here. I am house shopping alone right now too with my mortgage qualification in hand and the same thoughts cross my mind all the time. I have a boyfriend and sometimes we are even in the same state at the same time, but I completely empathize with your thoughts. I even have 2 dogs, so I completely get it lol. little bit scared of racking up debt for appliances and furniture, too, so I will go for the thrift and resale variety for starters and try habitat resale shops for project materials. Thanks so much for the encouraging words though. It helps!
