I have a savings account with Ally bank and was considering opening a checking account as well. Ally bank customer service advised that part of the process would entail performing a Hard Inquiry to all three CRAs, even though I'm an existing customer because it is still considered a new account. But if I wanted to open another savings account, they would only do a soft inquiry as it would not be considered a new account. WTH???
Would appreciate hearing from others who have experience with or knowledge about this.
