Annual shots at the Vet!!!!...... Refunded! :)

My dog needed his ears cleaned. A family member offered to take the dog because I could not make the Vet appointment. I figured while the dog was getting an ear cleaning why not get shots too. Can't be that expensive.

$75 to clean the ears.
$485 for shots and tests.

Then I know my dog is kind of over weight so I put the dog on diet food. The Vet Doc said the dog was underweight and sold my family member food with more calories. Then sold my family member an ear cleaner that I buy at the local pet shot for $8 the same product for $20. I returned the accessories.

So the total damage after returns was $560.00. I need animal health insurance. This is worst than human medical bills. They raised their prices a bit don't you think. They were busier than a 50% going out of business sale. I'm guessing they are trying to reduce the number of customers because they can't handle the business they have now. Too busy. Way too busy. No surprise that every auto in the parking lot was BMW, Mercedes, Land Rover, ect...

I could have gone to another Vet for $70 for shots and $40 for the ear cleaning. The ear needed special attention from a doctor so no avoiding seeing a doctor for just that. But seriously!!! $560.00? I am slightly upset. The dog needs minor surgery and you better bet I'm not going back there!

Re: I just took my dog for annual shots at the Vet. $560.00!!!!

Alway ask if your Vet has raised prices every visit. I only expected $110 to $185 Max! But $560. OMG.... Can you imagine if I had 3 or 4 dogs. Yikes!

With two dogs I'm happy whenever I walk out of there and spend less than 300.  Smiley Wink

Re: I just took my dog for annual shots at the Vet. $560.00!!!!

A good friend of mine is my Vet. Good thing, since I don't have to pay very much. He didn't even charge me when I had to bring my female persian in for an ultra sound. We wanted to make sure how many kittens she was to have and to make sure she gave birth to them all since it was her first litter. (And my first time to help her. Persian's are very lazy mom's so they need alot of help!)

I think I spent no more than $75 and that was for 4 feet to be de-clawed (not at my urging, my EX Smiley Mad ) Plus a two night stay.

He also would throw in food and all kinds of goodies. Smiley Happy

I think you need a new friend Pizza. Smiley Wink

Re: I just took my dog for annual shots at the Vet. $560.00!!!!

I went to the vet knowing my dog had a urinary tract infection. $550 later the vet tried to guilt me into another $1000 worth of work.  She left a message on my machine to go pick up the medicine that i needed because the one that she had given me was not the right one.  Went to pick it up--$250!!!! I was crying.  I had told her that I didnt have anymore money. I got that medicine and refused anything else.  The vet was a new one fresh out of school who obviously had a very skewed vision of what some people could afford.

I worked for a vet office so I know that the things are pretty expensive, the pharm. companies have made sure of this, but I have also seen them milk the people who can afford it.  Usually, the would just come out and ask the person how much are you willing to pay up front--that would determine the course of action.  Sometimes that would mean the difference between putting an animal down and sending them out of state to the top man in the nation.

Needless to say, I won't be going back to that place.  She didnt listen to me and didnt hear that I just didnt have the cash.  Shoot, she even offered to give me the name of a specialist for my dogs allergies.  I felt like asking her, "What lala land do you live in, where everyone can afford that treatment for dogs?"

Re: I just took my dog for annual shots at the Vet. $560.00!!!!

pizza, I feel for you.  My shi-tzu got attacked by somebody's pit bull mix and we had to have his eye removed and he had a cast on his leg for about 6 weeks.  about $700 dollars worth of vet bills.  Bless his heart, he is not adapting very well to having one eye either.  If you throw his toy for him to fetch, he goes off in the opposite direction to get it.  He kinda looks like the toys Sid took apart and put back together in Toy Story.  $560 is pretty steep though, I think you need to find another vet who is in the business for reasons besides the money.

Re: I just took my dog for annual shots at the Vet. $560.00!!!!

I had a cat, Izzy, that first was pregnant and was having problems. Took her in and found out that her some of her babies had died. They wanted to do a C-Section and just for the surgery, $1500. Could not afford that so they did a pregnant spay for $390. With follow up and meds came to about $500.

Then the same cat, who was an indoor/outdoor cat got attacked by either a raccoon or coyote. I had to take her to the emergency vet since it was Sunday. And they always charge more. I could not afford the surgery and had to have her put down.

My Vet now is very reasonable. I boarded my dog for 5 days, got him shots and neutered and the total bill was $146.00.

I could be wrong, but I understand you can get free shots from the county for your dog or cat, I know I did and do. Free.99, that's how I roll these days. ;-)
