So, I have been utilizing a traditional brick and mortar facility (Regions) to deposit my payroll funds, but have not been happy with their service as of late.
I am looking to either strengthen a current relationship with a CU or become a new member. Currently, I am a member of Alliant, NAFAFCU and SDFCU. I am looking for a place the start dropping my payroll into so I can pay my bills with and also need traditional check functionality. I probably would like to open an auto and a new mortgage in the future, so a site that offers checking/savings and loans of this type is preferred.
I have heard that DCU was a great choice for auto loans, but what about a standard checking account? How do they stack up the USAA? I am not military, so I could not become a full member. I also have a strong need for a new savings account other than Regions.
Another reason I was interested in DCU was that they have a 10 year share secured loan. I currently have a 4 year with Alliant, but looking to open a new installment loan for FICO reindeer games. My current FICO is 780ish on TU and about 730ish EQ/EX. I would like to avoid HP's as I have 4 on EQ/EX and 3 on TU, but would sacrifice one if it was a great CU that provided all that I need.
Anyway, any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!
Can't comment on DCU but IMO USAA it makes it relatively convenient for banking services without local branches and their service has always been excellent in my experience (though you'll certainly find comments that say it has declined). However, If you have to deposit cash it could be a hassle.

Easy at a UPS store, though.

This is the only part I can speak to... USAA is awesome for insurance & CCs (I LOVE my insurance policy through them). I've heard they're good for mortgages. They absolutely suck as a bank. Interest rates are utter crap. Benefits don't make up for it.
