Buying Visa Giftcard

Let me start by saying this IS NOT to meet a spend requirement.

I plan on purchasing some gift cards for our business to give out to clients as a sign up bonus for working with us.

I would just like to know if purchasing gift cards at a grocery store or office supply store counts as making a purchase at either store.

Essentially I'm asking will I earn the same points associated with that purchase as I would if I bought anything else in the store?

Example: $200 purchase at Office Supply codes store gets me 5% CashBack normally meaning $10.

No he won't and we really need to stop giving out misinformation like this.

Yes buying gift cards will count as a purchase and code as office supply in most cases.  Just dont go overboard

Re: Buying Visa Giftcard

Paper chasers - Banks don't exactly get sent a list of every single item you bought when you go shopping all they see is a charge, and the store's information. (Unless I'm wrong about this).

But either way as long as it isn't to meet a spend requirement to get a bonus I don't see it as being an issue at all.

In fact say you use a Visa Card to make the purchase and are purchasing a Visa Gift Card. Then Visa is making twice the money from merchants to use the cards.

Re: Buying Visa Giftcard

Many grocery stores no longer allow you to use a crefit card to purchase gift cards- they accept debit cards only for this purpose. All of the grocery stores in my area recently put small signs at the register stating this.

Their systems will also reject it if you try to use a credit card anyway.
