My first car was 66 mustang that my dad and i restored and i drove throughout highschool and some of college. I LOVED that car. But unfortunately i had to sell it. 6 years later i find my self looking though the paper looking for the same car to restore.
DW's first car was a 1990 Mazda MPV minivan. That thing was sooo loud driving cause of the rattling muffler..later traded it in for a Lexus is 250

Where are you from, Shane??
I ask because you mentioned the beaches! Don't suppose the answer's Florida, is it?
The other place in the U.S. with real nice beaches - So Cal ;-)
mymoneynow - just saw this on yahoo...thought of your previous comments. Your husband may be running scared...yellow is suppose to be the "new" color...which I am thrilled about, been trying to find the right yellow to paint my living room.

Well, my all time favorite car was my first: a 1973 Mazda Rx-3 station wagon. This had a Wankel Rotary engine that gave it unbelievable acceleration for such a small car. It had plenty of room for gear and passengers. It had a great stereo system. I tooled all over California and the Northwest in that little car as a young, single guy without a care in the world. The feeling of freedom was simply awesome. And every weekend was a good excuse for a roadtrip to adventure.
Sure, it only had average looks. It wasn't sexy at all. It even backfired regularly with the volume of a shotgun blast when it was parked for 2 minutes. I learned to develope a polished routine to deal with the backfires: I'd quickly walk away from it when parked and when the inevitable backfire occurred, I'd spin around as startled as everyone else within earshot---"What on earth was that!"
But for all that--it was cheap. It was mine. It was fast and dependable. And it was paid for, in cash. You just gotta love any car like that.
Regards,
Cato
I have owned many cars in the last 16 years. In fact I have owned over ten--always bought used for dirt cheap at auctions.
DH bought me a brand new Mazda 3 for my birthday--I am finicky about gas mileage and cost. (I just don't like to spend money on cars). All in all, the Mazda will get run into the ground, because what he paid for it is equal to half what I spent in the last 16 years on all my cars. So it will be the longest car relationship I have ever had. To be honest it is super cute, and I average 31 mpg, So I am thrilled! It really takes a corner well too, but I will never get black interior ever again!
Of all the cars I have owned my favorite was a Saturn S-Series, paid $1800 for it in 1998. It was in great condition, and was my favorite car ever! I sold a year later for $4300.
I did foster care for about two years and had a Dodge Durango and a Ford Windstar, both sucked gas. The Durango was comfortable but it broke my heart to drive it. Seriously, I really felt like crying everytime I filled either of these vehicles.
Had a Honda Accord, it was nice. Ford Escape--great gas mileage for an SUV, Mitsubishi Montero great look but poor gas mileage, Toyota Corolla--super car made money on it, Subaru Impreza--not really impressed, Toyota Camry was ok and a 1989 Chevy Corvette--super fun to drive but "spendy gas" and not family friendly (was a gift sold it for $11000 in 2003--had 35000 miles). A Ford Tempo that fell apart and a Ford escort that I sold to a guy one night at a party for super cheap (I was drunk) --it blew up two days later--go figure.
Now in the winter, I borrow DH's car. Takes the "spendy gas" and only gets 24 mpg, but it is sooooo much fun. It is a Subaru WRX Sti---the most fun car ever, and it is a pretty sexy ride.
Close tie between my 1986 Toyota Celica and my current car, 08 Saturn Vue XR.
History:
I'm not sure where to go next. I REALLY like sitting up high in the SUV.
