Today I found a check that is 5 1/2 years old. It was from UPS's insurance agency to cover a claim. The check doesn't have any expiration date on it (some say good for 90 or 180 days) so I think it's still good. Besides being that old, it's also made out to my old company that I owned. I closed that 5 years ago. My last name is part of the company name. What are the chances of me cashing it? It's not a huge amount ($133.04) but I wouldn't mind that money in my pocket. I'll probably try my bank on Monday or call to see if they can reissue it in my name.
Try it. Doesn't hurt doing that. But the check doesn't have to have a expiration date on it. It is up to the bank whether to accept it or not. And usually it is not much more than 6 months when the issuer doesn't place an expiration on their checks.
