Re: Looking to Relocate to Austin

If you like Barbeque,  try the Salt Lick in Driftwood Texas.  Not too far from Austin.  Very good.

Re: Looking to Relocate to Austin

Never actually been to the Salt Lick in Texas...They did however open up a location in Las Vegas at the Red Rock Casino out in Summerlin.... Small portions and outrageous prices.

I would definitely have to try the original because I have only heard great things and the visit to this location was horribly disappointing!

MsKiwi: fingers crossed in a few months I'll be reporting my move. I'll take you up on the offer and give a GREAT TIP!

I love Texas.......People are SO NICE!

Re: Looking to Relocate to Austin

You will love Austin!
I have lived here since 1983 and have never regretted moving here.
There are tons of great neighborhoods in Austin in all directions. South West, South, The North West part of Austin up towards Great Hills and further is very nice. There are a million and fifty high-rise condos going up downtown which would work well for a 6th & Congress job location.
I have lived in Round Rock since 1998 (except for when I moved for a couple of years to Asheville, NC 2000-2003) It is just North of Austin. Kind of a northern suburb.
It is OK but it is not the same place that it was when I left to move to Asheville. Way north is Georgetown which is where I think I might buy my house at.

Well anyway, you will never be bored here. There is music, festivals, outdoor stuff, small towns, Great People!

Good luck in your move and let us know how it goes!

Re: Looking to Relocate to Austin -UPDATE

Had my first interview a few days ago....Went VERY GOOD. I was told by the person I spoke with that for the right candidate they would hold the position until that person was ready....(this was after I told her I needed 45 to 60 days notice to move)

Also told me she would be on vacation for the next 2 weeks and to not be discouraged if I didn't hear anything until after her return date. She made it pretty clear she wanted to move forward with the interviewing process.

Didn't want to post too soon, but I would swear that I have the job. (I hope that feeling is intuition and not just hope!!!!)

Re: Looking to Relocate to Austin

So....I have minimal furniture and the first estimate I received was $2,900.00.

I'd prefer to keep my big screens, my chaise lounge and a few key items.... My bed is no good, I don't like my 8 month old couch and the rest could easily be replaced with new stuff to fit in my new house....

I don't know what to do....

Anyone know of a good moving company that specialties in small moves (think a 1 bedroom + den)????

Or somewhere I can donate a large portion and take the tax credit next year?

Thanks in advance!

Re: Looking to Relocate to Austin

Donate to Salvation Army or Goodwill if you have one in the area. If all you have it 1 bedroom & den maybe be better to rent a Uhaul with trailer & hitch for your car. Been there done that!

Re: Looking to Relocate to Austin

I love Austin. North Austin and Georgetown or Round Rock are good areas. Little more $$ but worth it. Barton Creek....if you are making over $100K go for it. East Austin( i go for the food and fun....I likes to keep it hoodie every now and then with my peeps) yeah that is right if you see MLK Blvd you are in East Austin. Not as bad as every seems to think. Again, I love all of Austin but for me Barton Creek is MY dream spot.

Re: Looking to Relocate to Austin

Just bound my firm Moving quote of $1,270 +/- 5%...found King Van Lines who are based out of Dallas, Texas.

Everything on track...also contacted Goodwill to pick up my heavy items I don't want. Funny thing (or not so funny) a large disclaimer mentions they are currently not taking large appliances like stoves, dishwashers, fixtures or construction goods (hmmmm....guessing that is because of the foreclosures in Vegas resulting in the x-homeowners ripping out all things not bolted to the house or those stealing copper piping?!?!) Wondering If I provided my bill of sale if I could donate my new refrigerator??..

Now all I have to fight for is my rental house for which the management company originally told me I had to forfeit my security deposit due to default....I quoted them our revised statutes and haven't received a reply yet....We will see how that goes.

THANK YOU AGAIN EVERYONE!!!!
