I find NY Times and MSN Money personal-finance writer MP Dunleavey (the M is for Mia, I dunno what the P stands for) refreshing and irritating in equal proportions. Most finance writers sell variations on the same basic message: once upon a time I made big mistakes, but I finally saw the light and got my act together. If they are still having difficulties, they certainly don't share them with the world. Not so for MP, reading her columns I learn about the mistakes she continues to make (and sometimes exclaim, "don't go there MP!"). Her honesty is refreshing but I do wish she could learn to follow her own advice a little better, particularly when she and her husband decided to buy a bigger house than they could comfortably afford.
