Southeast vacation spot?

So me and my partner both live near Charlotte NC.

Our 1 yr anniversary is coming up Nov 7 (of dating, not marriage) and Im looking to do something special.

I was looking at hotels in Charleston but they are like $400+ and night in downtown Charleston SC.

I grew up there and havent been in years.

Any ideas besides spending $2k? lol

Just want something nice for us. We dont live together so time together in a hotel is nice (we both just grad college and live with our parents).

We rent on a crusie in July that was freaking awesome for $500 each Smiley Happy

Looking to go Nov 5, 6, 7, 8 so 3 nights.

Or Nov 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8 which is 4 nights.

ADVISE ASAP!!!

We never stay in nice hotels but $400-$500 a night is pushing it. IDK

Re: Southeast vacation spot?

Maybe look at Tybee Island, Ga or Savannah, Ga?

Try looking at multiple travel sites and maybe not staying in the middle of the historic district, and looking for 3 or 4 star hotels with good reviews.

Choose a moderate but nice place to stay, with a good breakfast included, and then plan out short trips to restaurants in the late afternoon that interest you.  The driving time will make the dining experience longer without a huge expense for the big 5 star restaurant.  You can get 3 to 4 hours of entertainment that way.

My wife and daughter became infatuated with Savannah and that movie that was made there, 'Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil'.  We took the guided motor tour, they wanted to eat in restaurants from the movie, had to buy the dvd from the tour guide, etc.  The Chef that used to be on the Food Channel, Paula Dean, has a couple restaurants there.

Re: Southeast vacation spot?

Forgot to mention -

November is an excellent time of year to go to Orlando and visit the theme parks.  Google maps says about 7.5 hours and 525 miles, Charlotte to Orlando.  I like to drive, maybe you dont.

Temperatures are lower and humidity is lower and crowds are down.

Lots of Hotel choices outside the theme parks so it doesnt have to be onsite if you dont want it.

Re: Southeast vacation spot?

Thanks fo much for the advise.

Im from GA and have friends in Savannah so I cant fathom paying for a hotel when i can stay for free there. But I also dont want to sleep on a blowup mattrass for our anniversary. lol

I might just bite the bullet and splurge on a hotel.

I also look at another cruise for us but they depart on a Sunday and come back on a friday and we dont want to use all of our vacation with the holidays coming up.

I could get the Citi Prestige and get a nice hotel to cover the 4th night free. I might do that Smiley Happy

Re: Southeast vacation spot?

Ever thought about Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge, TN?  A hop and a skip away from Harrah's Casino in Cherokee, NC.  Look for a nice cabin rather than the standard hotel room.  Westgate has some awesome looking rooms in Gatlingburg.  You never said the vacation had to be at the beach.

You could go to the Georgia mountains to a secluded place.

Re: Southeast vacation spot?

I've never been to Mexico 'proper' (I've just been to border cities a couple of times) but I've heard it's absolutely FANTASTIC.

You're exactly right... YOLO, and it sounds like you got a pretty good deal.  Enjoy your trip!
