Like I said... Many servers don't make enough to pay taxes. They usually get it back in April.

To how every cent is Tax (bad enough they get paid less than minimum wage), how it will never show up in their paychecks, to how she had to keep track of every Card tip so she knew what to expect in her check... I find it Disgusting they have to go through all this for honest work.
Since then I always tip in Cash, I will even pay the whole Tip if no-one else has Cash on the them. Just one reason I always like to keep some Cash on me, to those who champion being 100% Plastic.
P.S - I also always write "00 - cash" in the tip field on the reciept, everyone that pays Tips in Cash should practice this for protection.
This is where I disagree, every cent SHOULD be taxed.
I would agree if they made ATLEAST Minimum Wage. The fact many of them only earn 3$ an hr outside of tips and you want to tax that... Come On ... You can make more sitting on your ass at home collecting Welfare.
I think it depends on who the tipper is. If its someone being cheap, then they would struggle. I usually tend to tip generously, even though I use plastic for everything including tips. The waiter serving me for this hour is going to earn $3 for their wage, plus 5-10 dollars from me, and tips from any other table they were serving. Even if they didn't wait on any other tables, your looking at potentially $13 an hour gross. That's WAY more than I make per hour, and I am taxed on every cent because I get paid an hourly wage by my employer.
Like I said though, it does depend on the person tipping. If it someone being cheap and they only tip $3, then in that scenario they potentially gross $6 an hour. Goes both ways I guess.
Heck I remember when even though it was a plastic tip, the waiter looked really surprised to see I tipped him over 100% of the meal cost. I was at Denny's at about 3AM with some friends, and all I ordered was a plate of fries. We ended up talking for like 3 hours (it was dead inside), and at the end I got my $4 something bill and wrote in on the slip $6 next to tip. I am going to stop typing now because I just realized I was rambling and I am sorry if you are still reading this lol.
I usually tip plastic, no reason just don't often have cash.. Another tip I give is when I sign, instead of my signature I sign with my comments. So if the service was less desirable I would sign "bad service" "slow service" etc.. And if the service was good or great I would post "awesome service" "amazing service". I do it because I used to work in a restaurant a couple years ago so I know those receipt have to go to the manager or else the server will get in trouble so I know they will see my comments. I know your supposed to sign your sig to verify the charges but don't worry I keep track of what I sign on my copies.

I usually tip $2-3 per hour at non-drinking establishments. +2 dollars each for nice face or body (sorry, I'm shallow). At drinking places, I tip $5-10 per hour. But for some reason, tipping while drunk tends to have an exponential curve for me and 100% tips on non-trivial bills aren't uncommon.
Also, I have a tendency to tip more when I use cash, so I prefer the plastic. I'm sorry the server has to jump through more hoops, but am I supposed to feel bad because someone has such poor planning that they rely on day to day living? What happened to good old fashioned paycheck to paycheck living?
at the bar i go to i open a tab on the card but i always tip about $60+ cash. but thats because the bar tender only charges me for 2 or 3 well drinks which is about 10 bucks regaurdless of the number of drinks or kind of drinks.
If I am paying in cash, I tip in cash. If I am paying with plastic, I tip in plastic.
What happens after that with how the tips are distributed I can't change. I tip for acceptable, good or great service (10-20%) and just leave it as that. If the server wants to play loose with reporting his/her tips, that's their problem. I'm not going to aid them by letting them take "under the table". If they play loose with my credit card by adding extra tip, then by all means I am going to the manager and getting that cheater fired.
Here in Canada, we don't have asinine wages like $3/hr for restaurant servers. Min.wage is min. wage is min. wage = $10/hr no matter what type of work they are doing. Add in the tips and a good server can make be making $20/hr or better. In my books that's a living wage for that type of work.
I'm a server and I don't care whether someone tips with cash or on their card. I claim ALL my tips, including cash. Servers that don't claim their cash are only hurting themselves in the long run. What happens when they go to apply for a car loan, mortgage, etc and get turned down because there income is too low on "paper"? try explaining not claiming cash tips to a bank and see what they say.
