Just heard on the news that two have been filed by injured shoppers.

Walmart is definitely culpable in this situation. Wouldn't be a bit surprised to see a big fat lawsuit come their way.
Our Walmart stayed open on Thanksgiving and all night, as usual, so there were no long lines to bust down the door.
The spouse arrived at 3:30 am to go inside to find the target product and stand guard until 5:00am hit.

A similar thing happened at a local Walmart. They opened the doors at 3:00AM, but kept black baggies over the sales items. Further, the manager announced that if anyone touches the black bags, they would be escorted out of the store. This caused mayhem, not order. People were jockeying for position, by throwing "bows". I heard it was terrible. Not cool.
Everything is brung out on pallets at our local store, wrapped in black plastic.
It was ok to look through the plastic to see what was inside, most had a paper labeling the pallet taped on the outside.
It was not okay to dig through from the top and put what you wanted on top(like the size or color you wanted on the clothes pallets).
At 5am,they announced over loud speaker that you could start shopping. Everyone ripped the plastic off and got what they wanted.
The spouse, sister in law and her husband all went and took positions all over the store near the items they most wanted.
JCPenny's opened at 4am. They went there after Walmart(which they were out of by 5:30) and there wasn't really no more people than on a normal sale day. The spouse asked if they had a rush at 4am and they said no where near like last year. Our local JCP didn't carry the sale item that the spouse wanted but was happy to order it at sale price and have it shipped to the store, free of charge. So, all worked out well. Got the daughter a digital camcorder for $38.
