Don't know. That was 30+ years ago....
When I was in college, credit scores were in Roman numerals... Caesar would not allow us to see them.
Credit scores came in to use in the 80s, with the FICO score beginning in the mid-80s. Prior to that, there were 5 major credit bureaus and many smaller ones and they each had their own criteria for credit, using their internal scoring process if they had one. Credit was granted pretty much on a judgment call by the grantor. That's why some of us, who had no credit history to speak of, were granted early credit cards; I got Carte Blanche and AMEX Green in the mid-70s.
Credit limits, and the monitoring/requesting of increases, is a fairly new phenomena as consumers have become much more aware of the benefits of CLI. In the 80s when I got cards, we were pretty much at the mercy of the grantor, and getting increases was not widely practised by consumers. Consumers became more aware in the 90s and early 00s, and CLI requests became more popular.
I’m currently in college with two years left, guess you can call me a late bloomer (age 29) and I have a little over 16,000 in available credit, with the highest being 3,500 (Amex BCE).
In college now 21 =]
