What were you doing in 1977 when "Roots" aired?

I've read this thread and contemplated a response many times, but have always held off until now. I find it offensive that some can so easily make a joke of what is truly American history....the ugly part. I understand the need to have comic relief, but a parody of Roots scenes, really? And I consider Dave Chappelle equally disappointing as well. Have you ever seen a Holocaust parody? No. So why make light of the slings and outrageous fortune of my ancestors? None of us were there, but it was very real and admit it or not still effects lives of us all. Rant is done....and so am I!

I remember our father talking to us about this TV series and us asking all sorts of dumb questions :-)    Some of them weren't so dumb.
