I'm debating on whether I will smack my boss upside the head today. Long story short, he won't give me friday night off to take my 7 year old trick or treating. He gave it to someone who wants to go out and party instead. (trick or drinking) Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
I work as a manager at a small restaurant and he gave the other manager the night off even though I put my request before anyone on sept 1st! I have put in maybe 5 requests for specific days in the year and a half I've worked there.
This guy is a putz.
From a boss point of view:
I can never SATISFY ALL employees.
From an employee point of view
I always can CALL IN SICK.
One year when bad candy was going around, I offered my son a new video game instead of trick-or-treating. He jumped on it. I think he was about 8 or 9. If this offer doesn't work.......call in sick or take him trick or treating for one hour and go in late. Your boss is a moron.
I would certainly remember this *partying* co-worker if he/she ever asked you for a favor.
Now, I may be wrong about this, but IMO it's 'prolly not a good idea to smack your boss upside the head if you wanna keep your job.
I'm just saying................

Didn't I hear that stomach flu was going around??? BTW I am a supervisor too and we tried really hard to work with moms and dads- got some of the single people to come in long enough to let others take kids trick or treating and then they could leave when they got back. Being a nurse we work everyday of the year so we all try hard to help each other out.
Single people (or in my case, "geographical bachelorettes" ) ought to get some holiday love sometimes, too. Maybe my boss thinks that since I'm here alone, no one must love me?
I was deployed last year so I missed 'em all anyway ... but the year before I worked T-Giving, Xmas, AND New Year's.
This year, Halloween is shot (I have swing shift) and I have no doubt that Thanksgiving is, too. But lord help 'em if they take Christmas and New Year's away again!
Hmmmmph.
Sorry, lol.
BTW - I totally dont mind covering for someone with kids and stuff ... but when they just assume, "Hey Treski's here alone, let's schedule her," and not even feel a twinge bad about it then I rant on myFICO, apparently.
Ha ha ha.
I have to laugh at some of the replies. Since I hate it when people call in sick, I just can't do it.
I've done scheduling as well so I do know how you can't satisfy all the people. I have decided to tell him that I will work from 2-5 and take a short break to take my daughter trick or treating and come back and close the restaurant down. We should be dead slow (small town and business is the pits right now.) He's scheduled so he can work for a change.
Trust me when I say this guy is a putz, if the owner knew how little time he's there (20 hours a week) vs what he reports (48 hours), chit would hit the fan.
